MarketDelta software has compatibility issues with certain printer drivers. If you find that printing does not function correctly, the best current workaround is to save the chart as a picture (from the main menu File | Save as Picture) and then open the picture for printing in Windows Picture Viewer or some similar utility.
Further Details
The Printing features of MarketDelta are minimal and are not “robust”. For chart printing, we generally recommend using the Save As | Picture command to produce PNG graphics image files that can be saved for future reference, and even printed if necessary by your web browser or other applications if desired. Quotepages can be saved as comma separated text files using File | Save |Save As Text, opened with MS Excel formatted in any way you wish for printing. MarketDelta is a real-time market analysis platform, printing features are minimal. They are not central to the focus of the software and have received very little attention from a software development perspective since they were originally developed in the 1990’s.
Printing of charts and quotepages generally works. We have been unable to determine the cause and have concluded that some of the internal software components we use to build our product are at fault. These are components from a 3rd party company that we are unable to fix or replace.
In your case, the problem may be as simple as not having setup a default printer in Windows. If you have a printer setup properly on your Windows system and can print fine from other applications but not with MarketDelta, you may just be one of the few who cannot print with the program due to these technical issues. There is one thing you can try. Quit MarketDelta, locate the file named “print prefs” in the “admin” folder. On Windows XP, the admin folder is typically located in the investrt folder within Program Files, where you installed the MarketDelta software. On Windows Vista and Windows 7, there are admin folders in Program Files/investrt as well as inside your C:\Users\username\ folder inside the “MktDelta” folder. Delete print prefs from both locations if present, startup MarketDelta again and try to print a quotepage or chart window. Before printing from MarketDelta the very first time, try using the File: Page Setup command. This command opens a window where you can select the printer you wish MarketDelta to use when you employ the print command. See if your default printer is correctly specified there, and if not you should be able to pick the printer from the list presented there.

There is a shortcut in MarketDelta that may be useful to those having printing blues.
Right-click in the chart, choose Save as Picture and hold the shift key down when you click Save in the ensuing file save dialog box where you can name the picture. The shift key tells MD to save the chart image and immediately open it using the default application for PNG graphics file. On my Windows 7 system, the image immediately opens in the Windows Photo Viewer application and I can then Ctrl-P to print the chart.
You can also setup a keyboard shortcut in MarketDelta, e.g. F2 to Save as Picture. Then the sequence becomes:
1. Activate the chart window (make it the front window)
2. F2
3. Shift Click on Save button to save the file.
4. Ctrl-P to print
Suggestion for printing problems in MarketDelta by a user.
I encounter printing problems and reviewed the suggestions you have in the
knowledge base.
The main concern I have with copy an image to file and then print is that my
chart background of black - as shown on the screen - will also be printed as
black on the page causing a lot of ink waiste.
In order to preserve the printoutput as meant by Market Delta I added a
generic printer of the printmanufacturer I use (HP) with the option to print
to file. In Market Delta I issue the print chart command of the desired
chart and he result will be a *.prn file containing the print as meant by
Market Delta (so e.g. no black background of chart eventhough the chart is
presentd with black background).
This *.prn file I then send to the HP printer using a very small program
with the end result of a print as meant by Market Delta software program.
The program has an easy to use interface.
The details of the program I use:
- small, freeware, no license/payments needed
- Can be downloaded directly from developer at
http://tp.lc.ehu.es/jma/win32/copyp.html
Further backgroundinformation:
- I am not linked or know the developer and have no interest whatsoever with
the developer or usage of the program
- The program seems to work fine under Windows XP and Market Delta 10.1.4
Trevor - In my business world this is not an acceptable solution. Printing is a basic function and this should be resolved. I am not satisfied with this answer and I have been very patient. I am disappointed more than anything. I expected more. I will find a solution myself. My system crashes when I print, that is more than a little issue. Especially when trading, I dont dare print because I know it will CRASH MARKET DELTA and I cant have my charts crashing while I am trading.
I think the developer needs to do better. Business is business, you are my friend but my expectations are the same for all, I would do nothing less than my best for you. In fact I would try harder because it was you.
I respectfully disagree with you on this manner and look forward to a future resolution. I understand the difficulty you have making everyone happy, Look at it from my point of view ----I cant even print more than 6 charts before Market Delta crashes and I have to restart the program print 6 more, then crash, restart market delta, print 6 more, crash, restart, print 6 more. It is now 10PM and I am still printing the days work of charts out after an hour.
